tale of two boxen

With the 3Ware 6410 toast, I sacrificed one of my 120GB drives. I have the file server back up running with a single 120GB disk. I’ve restored necessary files to get IMAP back online. Nothing quite sucks like not being able to access your mail effectively. I’m going to select a drive that sat opposite of the 120 I just overwrote in the RAID 1+0 array and setup Linux software RAID 0. As long as I pick the correct drive, I should be able to rebuild my RAID 1+0 array completely when I obtain a new card. In the meantime, RAID 0 will grant me the original space allocation, but zero redundancy. Newegg hasn’t shipped my replacement parts yet…

Meanwhile, the backup server and my 3Ware 6200 aren’t getting along. The Intel dual Pentium Pro board I assigned the 6200 and its drives too simply doesn’t like the card. The 3Ware driver issues errors and eventually resets the card, no matter which PCI slot I select. It seems like the card might be destined to be moved back to the Celeron 333MHz board from which it came. I thought the SMP board would be a nice upgrade for the backup server, but apparently not.

When all’s said and done it looks like over my case migration to the AOpen H700A I’m short eight hours of sleep, a 3Ware Escalade 6410 ATA RAID card, two days worth of email and twenty episodes of NoWhere Man. Lovely.
