Yay NewEgg

The replacement parts I ordered for my file server finally shipped. Apparently they’re being shipped FedEx 2nd Day. Not sure why, but I’ll have them tomorrow it seems. NewEgg rocks, it seems. They’re definitely not the cheapest online vendor, but so far the service has been excellent.

I tried again to get the 3Ware 6200 to work with my dual Pentium Pro board to no avail. A mysterious warning from the Intel NIC driver prompted a Google search which pointed at issues with PCI bus bandwidth. It’s possible this board cannot handle both on-board SCSI and a 3Ward card running concurrently. Looks like I will have to replace this board with my Celeron 333MHz board after all.

My 50 -> 68 pin (ff) SCSI adapter arrived yesterday. Now I can use my 50-pin IBM Ultrastar 17GB SCSI drive on a 68-pin cable. Originally this was to accomodate the 68-pin SCSI adapter on my dual Pentium Pro mainboard. Since this board will no longer be used, and I have an existing Adaptec 2940UW with both 50-pin and 68-pin connectors, the purpose of this item is now rather moot. I’ll probably use it anyway since a 50-pin cable is bulky and messy. Now I need to buy another 2940UW, though. I have a Quantum Atlas 10K 9.2GB U160 SCSI drive I want to use in my file server, but I haven’t had a SCSI card available until recently. (And now it’s going to be unavailable in the backup server, again, for the IBM SCSI drive.)
