It seems my Adaptec 2940U2 OEM is DoA. The card does not POST. If a LVD or SE drive is attached, the system does not POST. I had a similar issue with my 7450-4LP from a few weeks ago, which I have not yet gotten a refund for.
The IO Magic card I received is actually a Promise PDC* chipset card, which seems to care not for IDE drives attached to both ports. I’m forced to slave one drive to another on single port, leaving a perfectly good port free, to get the card to survive a Linux Promise driver probe. Quite lame.
I pizza boxed my Dell OEM P3 mainboard to test out all this stuff. Looks like it’ll be sitting there, parts all over the place, for a while longer until I get a working 2940 delivered. A 2940U2B and a 2940U2W should be arriving new week. What can I say, I over bid on a lot of items.
While I have this ’system’ out, I think I’ll test both my gigabit ethernet adapters on it. With the luck I’ve been having, I really do not want to take my file server and backup server offline and perform any hardware operations on them. Who knows, I just might blow up another 3Ware Escalade card in the process…
