Apparently for the longest time, the ECS K7S5A failed to work with quite a few mass storage controllers, like Adaptec’s SCSI products and AMI’s MegaRAID 200 Express.
The symptoms are painful and immediate. After installing one of these products in a K7S5A board, it hangs after the SCSI card completes its POST. My Adaptec 2940U2W simply locked the system up, although you could make it into the Adaptec BIOS before being locked out. The MegaRAID card didn’t hang the system, but the K7S5A simply did nothing and waited endlessly.
Fortunately, the solution is simple. The fix has been available since Fall of 2002 in the form of a BIOS upgrade. BIOS release 02/10/29 will probably resolve your issue. Both my 2940U2W and MegaRAID cards work after flashing to the latest BIOS for this board.
