Now I know why CompUSA is oft called CrapUSA

I went to the CompUSA in Tampa, Florida, on Hillsborough Ave to find the store mostly deserted. None the less, I had to wait five minutes while the manager held up the only open line to explain the difference between DVD-R and DVD+RW to a customer. Eventually, it was turn and the sales associate has no idea if she could price match an item or not, but to ask the woman at the service counter, who had wandered off. I waited for a few minutes and she returns. I explained I wanted to price match a 160GB Segate PATA drive to Walmart’s lower price. She snarls that the items must be the same. I tell her they are. She then opens up the phone book to look up the Walmart phone number, then vanishes again for five minutes.

When she returns, she starts to dial the Walmart number, somehow managing to fail a couple of times. Finally, she looks up the item on the CompUSA computer and three rebates pop out. I explain I don’t care and just want a price match to Walmart so I can save $10. She declines and, after some moments, arrives with the manager. He explains that he can’t do a price match, even if they throw away the rebates, which I asked them to do, because I can do their instant rebate later online. I explain I don’t care, that it’s a bother, and I just want my silly $10 price match, having wasted fifteen minutes of my time already. The CompUSA manager again declines.

Finally, I explain that a $10 price match isn’t worth this much effort and neither is the sale and walk out.

I am happy to have not spent over a $100 at CompUSA after they wasted nearly thirty minutes of my time, were unapologetic about the wait, and had zero interest in completing the sale. In fact, having never been before, I’ll certain never go back to a CompUSA again in my life. What a complete waste of my time.

I now know why it’s often referred to as CrapUSA: The prices are crap and the service is crap.

Crappy indeed they are! They must depend on their “behind-the-scenes business accounts” to keep them afloat. They treat walk-in retail customers like crap! Thus CrapUSA!

Well everytime I go there I am treated great! I bought a full computer system there and I was taken care of right away. One day I was in there to get just a few cables and ink and I walked out with what I came in for and I also had a delivary for my new 50in Samsung plasma tv. Also there tech services is the best! They are quick, friendly and takes care of any of my problems.

Subsequent to my purchase, I found their online rebate filing system to fail multiple times, each time requiring that I call CompUSA to have the matter resolved. I did ultimately get every CompUSA rebate, though. Not really worth the hassle though.
