While signing up for an account at Citibank’s Web site, I came across the most amusing scare to prod you into selecting electronic statements. Security. Specifically, is your physical postal mailbox really secure?
You know your computer’s secure…how about your mailbox?
I find that flatly amusing. The typical Citibank customer’s computer is likely owned by a friendly cracker. I can say resolutely that for most people, a physical mailbox is far more secure than a Microsoft Windows based personal computer upon which electronic mail is checked. Moreover, it’s a felony to mess with someone’s physical mailbox. Meanwhile it’s open season on the Internet where computer crimes, especially against individuals, generally go unnoticed or cannot be effectively prosecuted as the perpetrator is outside the United States.
Yes, I certainly want electronic statements Citibank. Thank you.
