Ok I have read everybody complaining about this emachines t5082 being crappy, slow and this and that dont run right with this or that.Well you get what you buy.Sure it was cheap.I bought mine for $398.00 brand new.I have had this t5082 computer since march of 2007 and yes almost 3 years later Im still running it as fast as can be and no problems anymore. All it takes is alittle know how to fix things and using the internet to find the right things.Ok first buy an after market graphics card with 1gb mem an install in the pci express slot.Runs about $70.00,next buy a sound card runs about $30.00,next buy 2 1gb ddr2 ram mods. They run about $25.00 each and you can buy all these parts for these prices at "geeks.com".Next your processor is upgradable aswell for the motherboard in the t5082.This runs about $60.00 also at "geeks.com".After all these little things and $200.00 more you have a computer that you can run with vista for 5 more years worry free.Hope this helps.

Had this machine for years. I put it up in the attic after using it of 6 mos. because it was slow and a piece of crap. I brought it out after over 2 yrs. of storage and hoped it would age well like a fine wine.... WRONG..... it was still slow as crap and full of problems. I ran into this blog stream and did most of what everyone here suggested... (upgraded RAM, deleted crap programs, adjusted performance settings like power saving, and a few other things)......

So now my T5082 is faster than any of my older computers running XP. It only cost me about an hours worth of time and $60 bucks for 2GB of RAM. Thanks guys for the comments. Most were right on. I won't say I love this computer but am liking it much better than when I bought it.

I got this computer about 2 years ago..it was slow too.. then i installed xp , slapped 2gb of ram..and better graphic card.. i spend about $150 on all that upgrading..then it was really nice..for the exception that the cooling fan was loud and after 4 months it gave up..it was disspointing but at the time. i was low on money and needed a PC asap. so far its been working fine

T5082 was a bad experience that brought me a new one. I got so pissed with the "Windows world" that I went directly to an Apple Store and bought myself an iMac 20". Thanks, eMachines! You guys helped me enter a wonderful world: Macintosh!

I am having problems with my T5082 with upgraded Ram. I tried recently adding 2 2GB DDR 533 mhz ram into the two slots. It only recognizes one. I then checked under Bios and it show only on Ram slot activated, the other not. I tried switching a few different Ram and it will recognize the 2GB if I have the factory 512. Any thoughts?

You could just install another 512mb of RAM for $10 from crucial, or get 2 gigs for $30 with shipping. I installed 2 gigs yesterday and it made a huge difference, next is a $50 graphics card and $35 power supply from Tiger and it should be plenty fast for my needs. Ive had the computer for well over a year and its been fairly slow until I added the RAM but its holding up well.
