Amazon’s Call Me Support Option

I haven’t ever had to call Amazon before, but apparently at some point they implemented a callback feature as the preferred method of contacting support by phone. It’s provided by a service called eStara. It seemed like an interesting idea, at first. The touted benefits, that the support representative always knows who you are and is available to speak to you, sound appealing.

My phone rang as soon as I submitted the callback form. When I answered, I heard the usual call monitoring disclosure, then it transferred me to a representative. Sadly, the call quality was poor. It seems to be an outsourced call center, possibly India. I was asked to confirm my name and email address anyway, even though the touted benefit of the service is the avoidance of doing that.

The representative was polite and able to resolve my problem. The poor call quality, including static and extreme low volume, made it challenging to hear responses to my questions, though.
