Just installed kubuntu 9.04. I already managed to crash plasma once by attempting to unmount an already unmounted USB drive that plasma still thought was mounted. Clicking the eject icon left me with a completely hung plasma. Killing it and running it anew from konsole brought it back to life.
For some odd reason, kubuntu automatically installed all package updates without asking me, making my system unusably slow. Or it was kpackagekit, which blew up when I ran it, complaining about a dpkg lock, but went on to install all the updates anyway? Not sure which actually happened, but all the updates are now applied…
kbluetooth4 crashed, I imagine while it was being upgraded, too.
A mild disappointment thus far.
I am hopeful the dbus in 9.04 won’t shit itself periodically, as it did in 8.04 on my system, forcing a reboot to recover access to the various tray applets allowing hibernation, networking, and so forth. One can hope, anyway.
The weird desktop folder thing seems to eat the lower right of a Konsole running on top of it. Disappointing.
While I’ve run Linux on the desktop for many, many years, I must say Windows Vista seems to work pretty well, all things considered. Can’t bring myself to give up a full *nix environment, though. Cygwin isn’t the same.
Time to copy over my various /home directories from backup.
Oh, and the fonts are hosed, as usual. Never upgraded a Debian or Kubuntu system without the fonts being hosed. Never fails. Enabled AA. Maybe that’ll fix it. Never remember how I’ve fixed it.
Also. File this under what the fuck? Apparently Konqueror mouse gestures in KDE 4.x break middle click pasting. I’ve been middle click pasting URLs into address bars since KDE 1 beta 3. Seriously. What the fuck? It can be disabled via System Settings -> Input Actions though.
